The Modern Renaissance Palette Review

13 January 2017

I have been trying to get my hands on the latest Anastasia Beverly Hills palette for some time now, and it finally came back into stock on the Cult Beauty website. The price of the Modern Renaissance Palette is £41.00, a little pricey but you are getting 14 eyeshadows for that price, that is about £3 an eyeshadow. Although i will mention that the weight of each eyeshadow is less than usual.
The colour combination is the perfect, the palette consists of warm eyeshadows, 11 matte shades and 3 metallic shadows, all of which go together beautifully. It is a versatile palette perfect for creating day to evening makeup looks.

I love the velvet packaging and the soft mauve shade, it is gorgeous. However, i can imagine the velvet packaging could get dirty very easily, and i doubt it will be easy to wipe clean. Right now though, it is beautiful.
Like most eyeshadow palettes the Modern Renaissance palette comes with a double sided eyeshadow brush. Normally the eyeshadow brush that comes within a palette is not one you would usually use, and are normally rubbish. However, this brush i must say is amazing!!! One side is a flat shader brush and the other a fluffy blending brush.

The formula of these eyeshadows is extremely soft. Although these eyeshadows are buttery they are powdery at the same time, and i have noticed when applying them they have a bit of fall out. I have found that using something like Mac Fix+ can help. I also recommend using an eye primer if you use this eyeshadow palette, as due to the creamy consistency they wear quite quickly.

The swatches for this post were done using my fingers to demonstrate how pigmented these shadows are.

Row 1:
Left to Right: Tempera, Golden Ochre, Vermeer, Buon Fresco, Antique Bronze, Love Letter, Cyprus Umber

Tempura - velvety beige with an ultra-matte finish.

Golden Ochre - earth-toned yellow with an matte finish, a awesome transition shade for any look.
Vermeer - iridescent shell pink with an metallic finish, this is the perfect lid colour in my opinion, very similar to Mac Jest.
Buon Fresco - antique lavender with an matte finish, this shade is the reason i purchase the palette, for me this is the perfect mauve.
Antique Bronze - metallic sable with an satin finish, perfect for a smoky eye.
Love Letter - raspberry with an ultra-matte finish.
Cyprus Umber - dark coffee with an matte finish. I love this shade to use to deepen the outer V and create the perfect smoking eye.

Row 2:
Left to Right: Raw Sienna, Burnt Orange, Primavera, Red Ochre, Venetian Red, Warm Taupe, Realgar

Raw Sienna - neutral amber with an matte finish, a beautiful transition shade.
Burnt Orange - deep orange with an matte finish, this is a great shade to deepen the crease or for the bottom lash line.
Primavera -  shimmering gold dust with a metallic finish.
Red Ochre - a cool brick-red with an ultra-matte finish. Another reason why i needed this palette in my collection. How can you say no to that?
Venetian Red - crimson with an ultra-matte finish.
Warm Taupe - earth-toned grey with a matte finish.
Realgar - Brick tone with an ultra-matte finish. Do i need to say anything about this colour? It has been my favourite crease shade for the perfect evening look.

I like this palette a lot, the shade range is amazing, and the overall blend-ability and pigmentation of the shades is impressive. It is my perfect autumnal/wintery palette and i can see i will get a lot of use out of it, and i most certainly do not regret buying it.

Do you need this palette in your life?
